Activities

Prairie Senior Cottages provides activities from wake-up to tuck-in. The activities are specially designed to meet the needs of those with memory loss. Activities include reminiscing, memory stimulation, sensory stimulation, favorite games, story-telling, pet visits, music, and much more. Routine daily tasks are also included in the activity calendar. The goal of Prairie Senior Cottages is to provide residents with an opportunity to have “normal” days.

Outings
As part of the activity calendar, residents participate in a variety of outings. Small group outings include casino rips, fishing trips, shopping trips, camping, nature trail walks, ball games, and dining out. Outings may also be more standard, such as trips to the beauty salon or barber, assisting with grocery shopping, or running errands. Residents are responsible for the additional costs associated with outings.

Household Activities
Prairie Senior Cottages believes that performing the routine tasks of daily living helps residents preserve theirself-esteem and dignity. Residents are encouraged to help with meal preparation and clean-up, housekeeping chores, laundry and grocery shopping. The therapeutic cottage environment permits residents to maintain a nearly-normal lifestyle that includes fun and companionship as well as 24-hour supervision by caregivers who understand the needs of our residents.

Little Things Make A Difference
Imagine your life if you couldn’t get in the car and drive to your favorite store, eat dinner in your favorite restaurant, take a bubble bath, get a pedicure, go fishing, or catch the latest movie. Prairie Senior Cottages provides the little things that make a difference in every day life. Some of those things residents have enjoyed:
Going to a movie theatre and eating freshly buttered popcorn
Participating in local Sunday morning church services
Steering a pontoon boat on Green Lake in the middle of July
Eating shrimp at Red Lobster
Testing their luck in a 25-cent slot machine
Going out for pie and coffee on Monday afternoon just because it’s Monday
Having a lotion foot massage
Shopping for a great-grandchild’s birthday present
Connecting with family by E-mail on the Internet for the first time

At Prairie Senior Cottages, residents can enjoy the “little things that make a difference".

"Prairie Senior Cottages was 'home' to Mom for five years. She was one of the family and was treated with the greatest respect, gentleness, and love. As an only child, the staff became an extension of my hands, feet, and heart between visits. She knew their voices and felt their touch and their love every day. Thank you all and may God bless and reward your work. We will miss you."
